Presenting
Reveal a flow one arrow at a time, with the payload of each step beside it.
Presentation mode reveals a diagram one message at a time. It is made for design reviews, onboarding and incident write-ups, where you want the room to look at one call and its payload before moving on.
Start presenting
Click Present in the bar under the diagram. Volley:
- goes full screen and hides the sidebar and toolbar;
- draws the diagram's title;
- starts before the first message, with everything after the current step faded;
- shows the current step's payloads in the inspector beside the diagram.
The bar at the bottom shows the step number, the route and text of the current message, a progress bar, and buttons for Back to the start, Previous step, Next and Exit presentation.
Keys while presenting
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| →, ↓, Space, PageDown or J | Next step |
| ←, ↑, Shift+Space, PageUp or K | Previous step |
| Home | Back to the start, with nothing revealed |
| End | Jump to the last step |
| Esc | Stop presenting |
Leaving full screen from the browser also stops presenting. Clickers that send the arrow or Page Up and Page Down keys work as they would in slides.
Presentation links
Choose Copy presentation link in the Share menu. Anyone who opens the link lands in presentation mode at the first step, ready to click through on their own. It does not go full screen until they ask.
- For a saved diagram, the link is the short link with
#presenton the end, so it always shows the latest version. - For an unsaved diagram, the link carries the whole diagram, like a share link.
On a phone
On a phone the button under the diagram is Step through. A bar docks at the bottom with the step number, a card for the current message with its payload chips, and Back and Next buttons. Tap Details to open the step's payloads, or swipe left and right to move between steps. Step through is free on every plan.
Tips
- Use dividers as chapter titles. They appear as you step past them.
- Put the explanation for a step in a
note:right after it, so it is revealed with the step. - Turn on
autonumberso you can say "step 4" and everyone finds it.
