Managing diagrams

Everything you can do with a diagram once it is saved to your account.

Your diagrams

Open Diagrams in the sidebar to see every diagram saved to your account, most recently updated first. Each row shows:

  • the title, linking to the diagram;
  • its visibility, Unlisted or Private;
  • when it was last updated;
  • how many times other people have viewed it;
  • buttons to copy its link and to delete it.

The home page shows your twelve most recent diagrams as cards with a preview of each.

On Free, a meter shows how much of your one saved diagram you have used.

Finding a diagram

Type in Find a diagram to filter by title. Every word you type must appear in the title, in any order, ignoring case. The search covers titles only, not the diagram's contents. Press Esc to clear it. The search is kept in the page address, so you can bookmark or share a search.

Fifty diagrams load at a time; Show more loads the next fifty.

Views

A view is counted each time someone other than you opens the diagram, either at its short link or inside a collection. Your own visits and README image loads are not counted.

Visibility

Every saved diagram is either unlisted or private. Change it from the Share menu with Make private or Make unlisted.

UnlistedPrivate (Pro)
Short linkOpens for anyone with the linkOpens only for you
Link previews in chat appsTitle and imageNone
README embedRendersShows "Volley diagram not found"
Inside a shared collectionShownHidden from everyone but you
Search enginesNot indexedNot indexed

New diagrams are unlisted. Unlisted means nobody can find the diagram unless they have its link: it is never listed publicly or indexed.

Deleting a diagram

Click the delete button on the diagram's row and confirm. Deleting is permanent: the diagram, its version history and its short link are gone, it is removed from every collection, and README embeds of it stop rendering.

Version history

Every time a saved diagram changes, Volley keeps the version before the change. Because edits save as you type, that gives you a version for each pause in your editing. Pro keeps the 50 most recent versions of each diagram. Changing only the visibility does not make a version.

Open it with Version history in the Share menu. The history lists each version with its number, title and the time it was saved, and two buttons:

  • Restore loads that version into the editor and saves it as the newest version, so restoring never loses anything. You can undo it from the notice that appears.
  • Compare opens the comparison view.

Compare

The comparison view shows two versions side by side with the changes listed beneath. Choose what to compare with the switch at the top:

  • With the diagram now compares the version with the current diagram;
  • What this save changed compares the version with the one before it.

The list of changes covers the title, lanes added, removed or reordered, messages added, removed or changed, payload fields added, removed or changed, and notes. When two versions differ only in formatting, it says the body was reformatted. Restore version brings back the version you are looking at.
