Volley / Collect HAR files
Recording linksAsk a customer for a recording. Get back a diagram.
Support teams ask for HAR files and get raw logs full of cookies and tokens, then read them by hand. Send a Volley recording link instead, and the recording comes back as a sequence diagram with secrets removed and failed requests marked.
How it works
- Sign in and create a recording link on the Recordings page. Say what to record, such as "Checkout fails after entering a card", and add instructions if you like.
- Send the link in your support reply. The customer opens it with no account and sees how to record in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
- They drop the HAR file on the page. Their browser turns it into a diagram, removes secrets and shows them exactly what will be sent.
- The recording shows up under the link as a diagram. Open it in the editor, add notes, and share it with engineering.
What comes back
Here is a short recording of a failed checkout, as the support agent sees it. The password is redacted, static files are gone, and the failing request is flagged:
No more scrolling through hundreds of requests in a HAR viewer. The diagram shows the path the customer took and where it broke, and a click on any arrow shows the full request and response.
Built for support and solutions teams
- Less back and forth. The link carries the recording steps for every major browser, so customers get it right the first time.
- Less risk. Session cookies and tokens never reach your help desk, because they are removed before the recording leaves the customer's machine.
- Faster escalations. Hand engineering a diagram with the failing call marked instead of a 40 MB file.
Limits
Free accounts get 1 recording link that keeps 3 recordings. Pro gets 50 links that keep 200 recordings each. Already have a HAR file? Import it in the editor for free.
Questions
Does my customer need an account?
No. They open the link, follow the steps for their browser and drop the file. Adding their name and a note about what went wrong is optional.
Is the customer's HAR file uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted in the customer's browser. They see the finished diagram and the exact text before they press send, and only that text reaches Volley.
What gets removed from the recording?
Scripts, styles, images and fonts are left out. Authorization, cookie, API key and CSRF headers, and secret-looking query parameters, form fields and JSON keys such as passwords and tokens, become <redacted>. Large recordings are trimmed to fit, keeping the most recent requests.
Which browsers are covered?
The link shows recording steps for Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, so you do not have to write them yourself.
What happens when a link is full?
It stops accepting recordings and shows the customer a message with your name. Delete old recordings to make room. Free accounts get 1 link that keeps 3 recordings; Pro gets 50 links that keep 200 each.
